Professional windshield for lavalier and headset microphones
patented design that guarantees quick installation, highly effective and permanent protection
against wind and unrivaled acoustic transparency. Fits round, omnidirectional
miniature microphones with a diameter of 4,3 to 5,8 mm (0,17-0,23 cala).
The first layer of protection is a newly-designed acoustic fur. The synthetic hair type, length, and density make the windscreen significantly smaller than most, without sacrificing wind rejection effectiveness.
The second layer of protection is the air cavity created in front of the microphone. Two sturdy arches keep the fur spaced away from the mic and maintain constant air volume. In addition, there is a mic stop to ensure that the microphone holds its position at the most protected point inside the windscreen – the acoustic sweet spot.
Easy to mount, even with your eyes closed
AIR1 was designed so that users can mount it quickly and easily even in difficult weather situations. The hard plastic construction is robust with handles that are strong and easy to use, from the first to the last time. With a large opening, a strong clasp, and a mic stop, it takes just a moment to insert the microphone into the windscreen and ensure it is properly positioned and securely fixed in the acoustic sweet spot.
No sacrificing intelligibility for protection
With consistent positioning and efficient wind protection taken care of, ensuring acoustical transparency can be achieved. Due to its nature, all acoustic fur attenuates certain frequencies. AIR1 has a built-in boundary surface that boosts the frequencies attenuated so that the audio captured is completely intelligible and sounds as if no wind protection is being used (minus that troublesome wind noise of course).
Key features
- Highly effective and constant wind protection achieved
thanks to the constant size of the air cavity around the microphone capsule and its correct positioning every time
- Quick and easy installation on the microphone, aided by solid handles at the opening of the windshield
- Total and constant acoustic transparency thanks to unique, patent-pending design
- Six color options that complement most clothing color options
- Two size options to fit most other brands of professional miniature microphones.
How does AIR1 reject wind noise?
AIR1 provides two layers of wind protection.
The first layer of protection is a newly designed acoustic fur. Thanks to the precise adjustment of the length of the hair and the material it is made of, its density and internal lining, the fur provides excellent wind attenuation while maintaining exceptional acoustic transparency. AIR1 achieves this while reducing the visual effect of the cover; using this solution, it was possible to reduce the size of the cover by up to 30% compared to other wind protection accessories available on the market.
The second protective layer is the air chamber created in front of the microphone itself. AIR1 uses two solid arcs that keep fur away from the microphone and maintain constant volume
air. Additionally, there is a microphone limiter that keeps the microphone in the most protected place inside the cover and at the optimal acoustic point.
Like the large Blimp cover, the AIR1 consists of a hard plastic construction and acoustic fur. The design firmly holds the microphone at the optimal acoustic point of the shield. This ensures consistent sound with every use. This consistency allowed DPA to design a solution that counteracts the inevitable high-frequency loss caused by even the best acoustic fur.
By adding a boundary surface just behind the capsule, a pressure field is generated around the microphone diaphragm. In this pressure zone, a specific frequency range is acoustically amplified. By adjusting the dimensions of the boundary surface, we adjusted the frequency gain to exactly match the frequencies attenuated by the acoustic fur.
How to know the difference between big and small AIR1?
To check what size of AIR1 you are holding, pay attention to the letter on the inside of the handle. L stands for big and S stands for small.
In addition to the letters, we have marked the spring in the handle with a color: silver for the large variant and red for the small one.
