Audioroot eTA4F-HSW-4W hotswap battery output cable, TA4F version, 4 wires with telemetry, for use with Sound Devices 8-series
This cable can be used to connect 2x Audioroot eSMART batteries on a Sound Devices 8-series recorder for simultaneous use or hotswapping.
As this cable is passive the recorder will display battery telemetry from only 1 battery when 2 batteries are connected. The battery from which the battery info is read, is selected randomly (i.e. the first battery that respond to smbus master commands).
It is always the battery with highest voltage which handles the load. As the batteries' voltage balance themselves during use they will tend to share the load 50/50. At that point current and power information shown on the BG-DU will correspond to half the actual values and estimated runtime will be correct.

The AUDIOROOT eSMART TRIO is an advanced portable smart battery power distribution system for location sound recordists. It can accept up to 3 independent power sources (3 batteries or 2 batteries + 1 AC/DC external power supply) and distributes power via 8 x DC connectors and 2 x USB ports.
This product was designed to offer sound location recordists a wide variety of solutions to power their devices. With the eSMART TRIO users can benefit from advanced features like battery hot swapping and/or AC power with battery backup, smBUS data flow through, overcurrent/short circuit fault detection and more…
The eSMART TRIO offers 7 industry standard Hirose™ compatible DC output connectors as well as a Switchcraft™ compatible TA4F output connector with smBUS battery data aggregation.
The distributor also offers 1 x USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 port and 1 x USB-C port with Power Delivery. Finally all battery and power information is displayed on a 3 OLED displays.
The eSMART TRIO was designed for use with smart batteries. Basic support enabling the use of standard batteries has been added with firmware v1.1. However when using standard batteries the eSMART TRIO will only be able to display voltage information. Other information such as current, power, estimated run time and capacity will never be available when using standard batteries.
Each AUDIOROOT battery has a built-in microcontroller that handles and records the main battery parameters such as: identification, type of components, number of charging cycles, date of construction, serial numbers and many other parameters. The microcontroller monitors the condition and behavior of the battery (energy consumption, temperature, voltage, etc.) and communicates with the charger to improve the charging process and thus the service life of the battery. Audioroot's eSMART batteries are fully compatible with the full range of current dispensers such as eSMART BG-DH MKII, BG-DU and K-ART. These dispensers are equipped with a current indicator system that provides the user with all the necessary information about the battery parameters in real time. Communication: fully compatible with SMBus Data exchange: compliant with the specification of the intelligent battery Charging: Recommended charger Audioroot eSMART MONO CHARGER or eSMART DUAL CHARGER.
